Bruce is a long time Vermont resident, graduating from Essex Junction High School and the University of Vermont. After a four year tour on USAF active duty, he returned to Vermont joining IBM as an engineer and continuing his military service as a member of the Vermont Air National Guard. Bruce had successful 30 year careers at both organizations, retiring as a Colonel from the Green Mountain Boys in 2008, and an accomplished business leader from IBM in 2013.
Bruce was also an elected member of the Essex School Board, and a 10 year instructor at the Community College of VT. Colonel Roy has been a Williston resident since 2001 when he and his wife Cindy built a home on Martel Hill while he was called to active Air Force duty immediately upon the horrendous events of September 11th.
Why Am I Considering Running Again In 2026?
The essential movement to more conservative and moderate representation in the Vermont legislature had great success in 2024. The supermajority was eliminated in both houses ensuring the strength in Governor Scott’s veto power and forcing the majority to a more open attempt to listen, cooperate and compromise. The addition of the moderate voice of Lt Governor John Rodgers was a huge step forward as well.
Despite this progress toward balance and compromise, there remains a lack of priority by the majority to listen to Vermonters and react with urgency to our day to day priorities, especially around issues of affordability, accountability and public safety.
Along with other moderate conservatives, I am pleased that several laws passed previously by overriding Governor Scott’s common sense vetoes, have been paused. That is not enough. Vermont’s status quo of unchecked government spending and increasing tax burden, making living here unaffordable for residents and inhospitable to businesses, must be reversed. It is increasingly obvious that it will take a conservative majority in Montpelier to make that happen. The current majority continues to not work with the Governor nor listen to Vermont citizens on a host of topics. With the continuing of legislature control under the Democrat & Progressive parties, critical bills necessary for reform and improvement are not being recognized or discussed in committee nor are they advanced to the full General Assembly and the Governor.
The Democratic majority said they “got the message” from the elections and school budget rejections of 2024 … they clearly did not.
Words are cheap… actions take focus and work.
Vermonters deserve to have their priorities heard and acted on with urgency. Back to back budgets in excess of $9B, a massive property tax increase of 40%+ over the last 5 years, dropping education scores and a dwindling workforce are evidence of a continued liberal policy failure to comprehend, collaborate, and compromise for Vermont’s future.
To do a course correction of spending and taxation, it is critical to restore common sense by shifting influence in our legislature. Let's start with adding Bruce Roy to the Chittenden County delegation. Travelling on Vermont's current path is not a road to success.
As a fiscal conservative and social moderate, I will focus on the responsible , sensible use of taxpayers’ dollars and supporting Governor Scott in his efforts to do the same.
Making Vermont affordable has to be priority one.
I offer Chittenden County voters a clear choice for change in Montpelier.
